TRUMPF reports decline in sales and orders received

German high-tech company TRUMPF releases preliminary figures for the 2019/20 fiscal year: Sales down by around 8 percent from 3.8 to 3.5 billion euros // orders received dip from 3.7 to 3.3 billion euros owing to the coronavirus pandemic and a weak economy // biggest individual markets: Germany, USA, Netherlands and China

Ditzingen, July 22, 2020. The TRUMPF Group posted a decrease in sales of around 8 percent at the end of the 2019/20 fiscal year on June 30, 2020. According to preliminary calculations, sales amounted to 3.5 billion euros (3.8 billion euros in the 2018/19 fiscal year). Orders received fell to 3.3 billion euros (3.7 billion euros in the 2018/19 fiscal year). This is a decrease of around 11 percent.

The biggest single markets after Germany with sales of approximately 610 million euros were the USA with 490 million euros and the Netherlands with around 480 million euros, due to the EUV business with ASML, followed by China with some 350 million euros.

Nicola Leibinger-Kammüller, TRUMPF President and Chairwoman of the Group Management Board: “Since autumn 2018, we have been feeling the effects of a weakening economy and the reluctance of many customers to invest, particularly in Germany. We attribute this to the uncertainty associated with the structural change in the automotive industry, among other things. It has been our observation that corona has intensified this trend and acted like a catalyst – a crisis within a crisis, so to speak. The central issue here is the uncertainty about the pandemic’s duration and the appropriate measures on the part of government.”

Only a few business fields such as EUV and Electronics are currently posting any sales growth. TRUMPF responded to the downturn in business more than a year ago with a program to boost earnings and by saving on material and personnel costs.

The Group-wide workforce count remained much the same at 14,300 employees. There were 7,400 people employed in Germany as at June 30, 2020, with around 4,400 working at the Ditzingen headquarters.
