The surface grating enables stable polarization and is etched directly into the GaAs. Multimode VCSEL
Multimode VCSELs are infrared light sources for mobile consumer applications. The compact dimensions allow use of the laser diodes in highly integrated sensors. These laser diodes are ideally suited for time-of-flight distance sensors due to their power class and radiation characteristics.
Mesas in parallel operation result in redundancy and increase operational safety.
Light at 940 nm cannot be perceived by the human eye.

Distance sensor system
The compact 940 nm laser diode is perfectly suitable for ranging applications, such as proximity or laser focusing in smartphones.
LiDAR
VCSEL arrays are excellent for LiDAR applications. Very low rise and fall times of the optical pulses make ultrashort pulses with high peak power possible. The addressability of the different segments on the VCSEL arrays can significantly improve the system performance.
Structured light
Structured light applications can be addressed very well with VCSEL arrays as the light source. Processing at wafer level with the latest semiconductor processing systems enables the smallest spacing and individual arrangements of emitters.
Illumination
Multimode VCSEL arrays are perfect light sources for IR lighting. The low spectral range and outstanding power across a temperature interval enable very good system performances.
OLED displays
VCSELs with stable and linear polarization improve exposure quality and the resolution in demanding 3D lighting application, e.g. in OLED displays.
In-cabin sensor system
Driver monitoring, interior monitoring and gesture recognition support autonomous driving and increase safety. VCSELs as light sources are particularly well suited for this purpose because they are efficient and stable in temperature with a narrow band.

940 nm multimode VCSEL with polarization control
The polarization-stable 940 nm multimode VCSEL has two emission zones which generate an optical power of 8 mW. The stable and linear polarization improves exposure quality and the resolution of 3D lighting applications.
ViBO
ViBO stands for VCSEL with integrated Backside Optics. This is an advanced, cost-effective and easy-to-integrate VCSEL array technology with monolithically integrated micro-optical elements. The platform offers a top view that is 5 times smaller compared to other packaged VCSEL solutions. Furthermore, the integrated optics enable an inherently eye-safe system throughout the entire product life cycle. ViBO solutions are particularly interesting for 3D sensor applications in the areas of consumer electronics, automotive and other industrial sectors.
Large 850 nm or 940 nm multimode VCSELs
The VCSEL is available as 850 nm or 940 nm multimode VCSELs. It is suitable for full-area exposure applications because the laser light is scattered. The output power includes 4-8 W, depending on the operating mode.
Small 940 nm multimode VCSELs
The small 940 nm multimode VCSEL is suitable for full-area exposure applications because the laser light is scattered. The output power includes 1-2 W, depending on the operating mode.
940 nm multimode VCSEL with double polarization control
The polarization-stable 940 nm multimode VCSEL features emission zones with orthogonal polarization control. The orientation of the mesas with 0° and 90° allows double polarization in a VCSEL. The two directions of polarization can be controlled individually. The stable and linear polarization improves the exposure quality in 3D lighting applications. In combination with polarization-sensitive optics, multiple concepts such as scatter and spot illumination are made possible.

There is also the option of double polarization, so that two directions of polarization are integrated in one VCSEL.
Multi-junction VCSELs enable higher efficiency and support miniaturization requirements. Thanks to the multiple tunnels, the laser output of a VCSEL can be multiplied at the same current.
VCSELs with integrated photodiodes (ViP) allow reflected signals to be picked up for further processing. The patented solution thus supports the self-mixing interference technology, or SMI for short. SMI is a trusted optical measurement procedure for applications in industrial sensor systems or consumer electronics.
